Overton-on-Dee, a large village in the Wrexham district of Clwyd, is located 7 miles from Wrexham. Along with the neighbouring village of Lightwood Green, and several small hamlets, it organised its own race meeting on Monday 23rd July 1866 in the beautiful vale of the banks of the River Dee when a large number of spectators were present. The opening Hurdle race saw Mr Hughes’s Cleaver beat Mr Rogers’s Evington Lass, while later in the day Cleaver gained further success in the Flat race, this time at the expense of Miss Quick. Although the meeting was well supported, there is no further record of a meeting taking place in the village again.
